“Great art when it represents beauty, is there to nourish the human soul”...RS

If I were to ask ten people what the best book of all time is, I’d most likely get ten different answers. That’s the beauty of a great book and likewise, that is the beauty and power of Fine Art. A great painting has the power to inspire and uplift people on a personal level.

To borrow a line from Richard Schmid’s thesis on CHOICES, Great art when it represents beauty, is there to nourish the human soul. And in my opinion, it is even more important to express this concept in unsettled times.

For nearly two years prior to his passing in April 2021, I assisted Richard with his book PORTRAIT AND FIGURE PAINTINGS. It was a meaningful and delightful experience, because I wasn’t aware of the wide range of his body of work.

When Richard designed his pages with full color oils and monochrome paintings of models from all walks of life, I asked him what he would like his readers to know about the diversity of the people he selected to paint. His reply was, “My paintings show the inherent beauty of all these people.”

During this unprecedented time of uncertainty, conflict, and my ensuing sadness because our nation has become so divided, I offer a few insights and share images of paintings by Richard Schmid, Nancy Guzik, and the other fine artists on my site, with the hope that these outstanding images will inspire and help to bring you some respite…

So, welcome to my newly enhanced website and blog! In the coming months, I hope to put forth the notion that Fine Art is indeed a force for good in the world.  Certainly, Nancy’s oil, GOLDEN PANSIES FOR UKRAINE is a just one example. Nancy entered her Still Life into an online auction that sold her painting for $2800 and donated all of the proceeds to help support the people of Ukraine!
